Youth Ministry

Remember your Creator

in the days of your youth,

before the days of trouble come

and the years approach when you will say,

“I find no pleasure in them”

Ecclesiastes 12:1

Welcome to a quick, honest, and short tour of what actually happens in our Youth Ministry.

If you’ve ever wondered…

“What exactly do they do on Sundays?”

“Is it just games and bubble tea?”

“Will my child learn the Bible… or just TikTok dances?”

“What will my child miss if they don’t come?”

…this page is for you. Grab a kopi-siew siew siew dai, and let’s walk through it together.

1. WHAT WE’RE ABOUT?

This mission is not a poster on the wall — our youths say it weekly, apply it in group time, and it shapes every game, lesson, and hangout. (In fact, the senior youths were recently invited to look under the bonnet of how we plan our mission into everything we do, and they're encouraged to do the same.)

It’s our compass, culture, and heartbeat.

2. WHAT WE TEACH (AND WHY IT MATTERS)

BTPC Youth Core Curriculum

Your youth live in a loud world — notifications, opinions, pressures, temptations.

Youth Ministry is not here to entertain them… rather, it is here to anchor them.

(Having said that they do have plenty of fun)

So what’s central? The Gospel and the Word of God.

(Ephesians 1:13–14, Colossians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 15:1–8)

Throughout the years in youth, we teach through a Core Curriculum built around:

  1. The Gospel — Who Jesus is and why His work matters.
  2. Books of the Bible (OT + NT) — We see God's plan promised and fulfilled in the whole counsel of God. We see that God is the same in both the OT & the NT.
  3. Biblical Theology — The big narrative of Scripture.
  4. Doctrine/Systematic Theology — What Christians believe and why.
  5. Exegesis Skills — How to read the Bible for themselves.
  6. Topical / Cultural Engagement — Identity, relationships, anxiety, social media, worldview and more.
  7. Evangelism & Conversations — Learning to share their faith and opportunities to do so.

3. HOW WE TEACH (AND WHY YOUTHS ACTUALLY LEARN)

Many parents worry:

“Will my child understand the Bible?”

Yes — and here’s how we help them:

We use youth-friendly Bible tools like

  • COMA (Context–Observation–Meaning–Application)
  • 5Rs (Retell–React–Reveal–Reason–Respond)

These tools teach them how to read the Bible, not just absorb answers.

Learning to exegete in life

We don't simply ask them questions; we want our youths to know how to ask questions.

In fact, we'd want them to learn how to question the questions they hear on social media... to understand there are worldviews behind the questions and statements and quotes they watch and read as they navigate their youth.

As we progress in the youth ministry, we want to exegete:

  1. The Bible passage
  2. The youth & their culture

This means we seek to connect Scripture with:

School pressure, friendships, identity, doubts, relationships, digital life, gaming, anxiety, etc.

We aim for head + heart + hands

Not just morals.

Not just “be good.”

We teach grace, the gospel, and life with Jesus, addressing:

  • Their real struggles
  • Their inner fears
  • Their questions
  • Their hopes

We're not here to shape them into model kids... they will have to journey through the challenges everyone has to go through. There will be mistakes, tears, pains... and we need to trust God to work in their lives.

We shepherd them… we don’t “lecture” them.

4. WHAT HAPPENS ON SUNDAYS (AND OTHER DAYS)

1. Corporate Youth Time (9:30–10:00am)

  • Games (yes, but intentional — not dessert, but a bridge!)
  • Songs, thanksgiving, prayer, testimonies.
  • Westminster Shorter Catechism (yes, we believe it is good for them to hear good questions and answers every week.)
  • Setting the tone for the morning

2. Bible Study Groups (10:00–11:00am)

  • Small groups where:
  • Youths learn Scripture
  • Questions are encouraged
  • Friendships form deeply
  • COMA & 5Rs are used to guide discussion

3. EGGs & EGSs

  • EGGs — Exciting Group Gatherings: Socials, food, fun.
  • EGSs — Exciting Group Studies: They are students, we get it.

4. Camps, missions & exposure trips

  • Youth Camp - they love this Big Time. (They'd want a youth camp every month if it is possible)

Church Camp

Mission exposure (Batam, migrant workers, SALT, opportunities that we invite them to explore/serve)

5. Leadership Training

We train older youths to:

  • Read and apply C.O.M.A. as they read the Bible
  • Facilitate discussions
  • Care for younger youths
  • Pray & encourage intentionally

While serving the younger youths, they'll walk alongside the youth leaders and see the youth's mission permeating everything we do - praying, mutual encouragement, proclaiming God's word... to faithfully love, serve and share Jesus Christ as Lord.

5. PARENTS — YOUR ROLE IS HUGE (AND WE’RE YOUR PARTNERS)

Parent partnership is Biblical and essential

(Deuteronomy 6, Ephesians 6, 2 Timothy 1:5).

  • We support and partner with parents.
  • We’re not replacing family discipleship — we’re reinforcing it.
  • We'd love to form informal prayer and/or reading groups for parents. If you're interested, give Andrew (Wong) a shout out.

Do reach out to us to have conversations about how your youth(s) is/are doing. Together, we disciple your youth.

WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL MISS (IN 2026) IF THEY DON’T COME

Your child will miss:

  • A community where they are known, loved, and discipled
  • Weekly exposure to God’s Word
  • Gospel foundations during the most shaping years of life
  • Friendships grounded in Christ
  • Leaders who pray, encourage, and guide them
  • Opportunities to grow in confidence, faith, and leadership
  • A place where questions are safe and answered biblically

Your child will miss a whole-year plan that builds their faith

  • Sunday mornings: games + life’s big questions
  • Term 1 — James: Faith with Muscles
  • Term 2 — Malachi: The God Who Doesn’t Quit
  • Regular Topical Talks that address real issues youths face
  • EGGs (Exciting Gatherings) & EGSs (Group Studies)
  • Youth & Church Camps that deepen faith and friendships

They will miss Bible Teaching that meets them where they are...

  • They miss journeying through Scripture in a way designed for youths: clear, honest, engaging, and life-changing.
  • They miss learning how to read the Bible for themselves, not just hear it from adults.

They miss camp(fires... maybe), conversations, shared laughter, shared tears, worship, testimonies, reconciliations, and friendships that often last for years.

These are the moments that shape a teen’s heart in ways that extends beyond Sunday sermon.

Life Anchored in the Gospel, Not in the World

Our world shouts: “Perform! Compare! Be more!”

Youth ministry whispers — and sometimes shouts:

“Never alone. Christ is with you. Christ is your life.”

They miss being anchored in the truth that carries them through exams, friendship drama, temptation, loneliness, disappointment, and every fear.
